Sandy & Beaver Canal Days brought residents and visitors together July 31-Aug. 1 for two days of entertainment, contests, food and community traditions celebrating Magnolia’s canal heritage.
Among the weekend’s highlights was the recognition of longtime community volunteer Mike Lancaster as Magnolia’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year.
Presented by the Magnolia Area Historical Society, the award recognizes Lancaster’s years of service to numerous civic organizations in Magnolia and Stark County. Society officials noted Lancaster and his wife, Susie Lancaster, have also been longtime supporters of the historical society. In keeping with tradition, Lancaster was surprised with the announcement while helping other volunteers set up for the festival earlier in the week.
Lancaster rode through town during Saturday’s parade. Festival royalty Nova Sellers and Reese Williams also rode in the parade and represented Canal Days throughout the weekend.
Festival organizers crowned Nova Sellers as Little Miss Canal Days and Reese Williams as Little Miss Canal Day…
