‘I will always wear him right here on my heart’: Wakulla County’s last WWII veteran laid to rest in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Joseph Williams, Wakulla County’s last living World War II veteran, was laid to rest Monday at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

Dozens of family members and friends attended the burial service for Williams, who was born in Wakulla County in 1919 and served in the United States Navy during World War II.

After his military service, Williams served his community as a volunteer firefighter and a professional house painter. Family members said he was a dedicated public servant who left a lasting impact on those around him…
