St. Tammany sheriff race grows with new candidate; former LSP head announces bid

Retired Louisiana State Police Col. Robert Hodges announced Monday that he is running for St. Tammany Parish sheriff, joining a growing field of candidates in a race that is beginning to take shape on the Northshore.

Hodges, a former State Police superintendent, launched his campaign online Aug. 3. He said he is focused on leadership, accountability and support for deputies in the Sheriff’s Office.

He spent 31 years in law enforcement and previously led the Louisiana State Police. During his tenure, he oversaw more than 2,800 employees, including about 1,000 troopers, and managed a $655 million budget…
