SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The buildings at the former Shamrock Court property on West College Street were demolished Friday after city officials determined the structures posed an immediate threat to public health and safety.
According to the City of Springfield, the Building Development Services Department worked with the property’s owner for about three years in an effort to bring the site into compliance with city codes. During that time, nearby business owners continued to report an increasing number of calls for service related to the property.
Martin Gugel, Director of Building Development Services for the City of Springfield says the city recently inspected the property, The City secured the property after a fire, and boarded it up. At that time, it was able to get a look inside.
When city inspectors were eventually able to enter the buildings, they found conditions were worse than previously suspected. Officials said the structures were in a severely deteriorated condition and posed an immediate threat to public health and safety, requiring their immediate demolition…
