NW Portland warehouse fire aftermath prompts Amtrak Cascades train suspension

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Amtrak Cascade train between Portland and Seattle has suspended its service after a warehouse fire in the Rose City raised ongoing safety concerns.

It comes after a warehouse and water tower were heavily damaged in a fire in Northwest Portland, raising concerns from firefighters that it could collapse onto nearby train tracks.

On Sunday, around 4 p.m., officials responded to the abandoned warehouse off of Northwest Naito Parkway near the Fremont Bridge after the blaze threatened to spread to nearby grass and the building’s roof water tower.

While the heavily damaged building was under control about two hours after the initial call, there is still an ongoing fear that the walls of the warehouse and the water tower may come crashing down.

The building happens to be located next to train tracks used by the Amtrak Cascades train service. The area of Northwest Naito Parkway is still being monitored by first responders, with a section of the railroad track taped off…
