Simpsonville breaks ground on streetscape improvement project

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The City of Simpsonville is breaking ground on the Downtown Simpsonville Project on Tuesday morning.

Officials said that the project is intended to improve how motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists travel into and throughout the core business district. The city’s plans include traffic realignment, streetscape improvements and related infrastructure work designed to support downtown businesses, public activity and long-term growth.

The plan includes removal of the concrete islands along Main Street. A South Carolina Department of Transportation traffic analysis found that removing the islands would improve traffic flow and provide additional vehicle storage for turning movements on Main Street.
