TAMPA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County School Board is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to roll back part of its recently updated student dress code following backlash from parents over a leggings rule.
The proposed amendment would remove a requirement that students wearing leggings also wear oversized clothing or another garment that extends to fingertip length. The rule was introduced as part of the district’s updated dress code but quickly became one of its most controversial changes.

Opposition to the policy grew rapidly, with an online petition calling for the rule to be reversed collecting more than 3,000 signatures. Many parents argued the requirement unfairly targets female students and places a disproportionate burden on girls.
