Sketch released of at-large suspect accused of assaulting 73-year-old on popular trail

Officials have released a sketch related to a disturbing robbery and assault that reportedly took place on a popular Boulder County trail on the evening of June 29. The hunt for the suspect in the case continues more than a month after the alleged crimes.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the case involves a 73-year-old male who was hiking Boulder Creek Trail in the area of the 40000 block of Boulder Canyon Drive. Earlier in man’s hike, he reportedly asked a woman for a drag of her marijuana joint, which she allowed. The man, who would later be attacked, says he took the drag, returned the joint, and continued his hike.

Around sunset, however, a male suspect – described in the recent update as approximately 24 years old – approached the 73-year-old and accused him of stealing a joint that belonged to his girlfriend. The suspect then allegedly followed the older man down the trail, confronting him about the joint repeatedly. As the older man worked his way toward his vehicle, which was parked west of Boulder Canyon and Canon Park Drive, the suspect allegedly attacked the man from behind. The man reportedly sustained serious injuries consistent with blunt-force trauma and lost consciousness…
