Multiple fatalities reported in early morning mass shooting in Prospect Hill, North Carolina

PROSPECT HILL, N.C. – A tragic mass shooting occurred early Wednesday morning on Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, resulting in multiple deaths and at least one person injured and hospitalized, officials confirmed.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) stated that the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office requested their assistance following the shooting, which took place around 8 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, deputies discovered several victims with gunshot wounds. One individual was transported to Duke University Hospital, while multiple others were pronounced dead at the scene.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden immediately sought support from the SBI to aid in the investigation. The SBI is currently processing evidence and conducting interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that the situation remains contained to the specified location.

The investigation is being led by the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the SBI, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Prospect Hill Fire Department, Caswell County EMS, Emergency Management, 911 dispatch, and the Person County Sheriff’s Office.

No suspects have been identified at this time. The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office has not yet provided additional comments regarding the shooting.
