GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Keep the umbrellas handy. Scattered showers and storms linger in the forecast each day but the chances gradually drop as we head into the weekend.
Below normal highs stay around for a couple more days before typical summer heat returns by Friday into next week.
Wednesday through Friday: Rounds of Afternoon Showers Continue
We’ll do this all again Thursday and Friday with a mainly dry start to the day and showers and storms moving in anytime during the afternoon and evening.
The threat for organized severe weather has dropped, however, we can’t completely rule out some gusty winds in any storms we see. Heavy downpours are also possible. If you’ve gotten a lot of rain over the last couple of days, you have the highest risk to see nuisance flooding with heavy storms today. What for ponding on the roads and flooding around poor drainage areas.
Temperatures remain below normal for Wednesday and Thursday for the Upstate, topping out only in the mid 80s. Friday’s a bit warmer as rain chances back off a bit, climbing into the upper 80s. For the mountains, highs are in the low 80s then they inch up to the mid 80s for Thursday and Friday.
This Weekend: Typical Summer Weather
The active pattern begins to retreat Saturday. While scattered thunderstorms still pop up each afternoon, they become less widespread than during the week. Plenty of breaks between storms mean you can plan outdoor activities around the rain.
Highs near normal for early August, topping out in the upper 80s to around 90 in the Upstate. For the mountains, we’re actually a touch above normal in the mid to upper 80s.
Next Week: Drier and Hotter
We trend drier into the early part of next week, good news for all the kids soaking up the last days of summer as well as returning to school. Mostly sunny skies dominate both days with only isolated chances for showers and storms. The trade off is the temperatures soar to above normal for mid August.
