Authorities clear homeless camp bordering Escondido

Five people were arrested and six vehicles were towed during a joint law enforcement operation targeting an encampment spanning Escondido and the unincorporated Harmony Grove area Wednesday, July 29, authorities announced.

Deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Homeless Assistance Resource Team and officers from the Escondido Police Department’s Community Enhancement Bureau conducted the operation in response to complaints about unauthorized encampments and public nuisance issues, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Authorities stated that deputies and officers had previously contacted people experiencing homelessness at the encampment and offered access to shelter, mental health care and substance-use treatment. They also warned those at the site that camping on private property was prohibited…
