The Washington Commanders are set to add veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs to their roster, according to a source familiar with the deal.
The source, speaking anonymously to The Associated Press on Wednesday ahead of an official announcement, confirmed that Diggs will join the Commanders for the upcoming season. The contract is reportedly valued at up to $12 million.
This signing provides quarterback Jayden Daniels with a reliable and experienced target, bolstering Washington’s offense behind established receiver Terry McLaurin. Diggs, entering his 12th NFL season, comes off a strong year with the New England Patriots, where he recorded 99 receptions for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns across 18 games, including playoffs.
Diggs’ career has included stints with Minnesota, Buffalo, and Houston. He earned All-Pro honors in 2020 after leading the league with 127 catches and 1,535 receiving yards.
After being released by New England in March, Diggs remained unsigned during free agency amid legal challenges stemming from allegations related to a dispute with his former private chef. He was acquitted in May, and the NFL later announced in June that he would face no disciplinary action following a review of the case.
With Diggs joining the Commanders, Washington aims to strengthen its offensive weapons as it prepares for the new season.
