JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A local organization is taking its mission one step further, breaking ground on an expansion project decades in the making.
For 78 years, Gateway Rescue Mission has remained on the front lines feeding the hungry, providing shelter and offering a refuge for people looking to kick addiction. Now, the organization will be able to assist twice as many people through its new renovation project.

The expansion marks a monumental moment for the ministry, transforming a building in the back of the property that sat empty for years. Once completed, the restored space will help support more men going through Gateway’s addiction recovery program.
“In fact, the Gateway Rescue Commission is doubling down on putting its resources together to create more shelter space,” Jackson Mayor John Horhn said. “Very important to our community. We’re going to add what they’re doing to the efforts that we’re making ourselves to combat homelessness and the unhoused, but it’s great Gateway Rescue Mission is doing what they’re doing because they’re doing it without one red cent of public dollars. It’s all charitable giving, philanthropic giving, and folks who just love the Lord and who want the city to be a vessel of giving in this community.”…
