ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A Bald Eagle that has been at the World Bird Sanctuary for two years after being shot will not be released into the wild, the Sanctuary announced on Wednesday.
The bird, identified as Bald Eagle 24-390, was brought to the Sanctuary for care after suffering from a gunshot wound to its beak. The Sanctuary said that the gunshot affected the upper portion of his beak, and despite healing well, beak maintenance will require regular human intervention.
The team at the Sanctuary said that during his recovery, they would regularly need to file his beak with a Dremel to keep it functional, as the damage to the upper part of his beak affected the natural filling of his lower beak.
