HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Henderson County voters will decide whether to help preserve farmland after commissioners unanimously voted to put a $25 million bond referendum on the November ballot.
The money would be used to buy development rights from farmland owners, who would retain ownership of the property.
“So that the farmer will be able to continue and the owner of the land will not be tempted to sell the property for residential or commercial or other uses other than farmlands,” Commission Chair Bill Lapsley said. “So as the title suggests, to preserve farmland.”…
