Madison City School leaders say they have tightened hiring practices and created more staff training after four staff members were arrested on child abuse charges over the past year.
Three men were arrested on sexual violence-related crimes and a woman pleaded guilty to third-degree assault. She pleaded down from her initial child abuse charge.
Here are the people who were charged:
- JB Burt, 36, former Heritage Elementary School subsitute teacher
- Date Arrested: May 13, 2026
- Charge: with being a school employee having sexual contact with a student under age of 19
- Gilford Kibler Jr., 62, former Discovery Middle School teacher
- Date Arrested: April 27, 2026
- Charge: with being a school employee having sexual contact with a student under age of 19
- Logan Thomas, 32, former Journey Middle School teacher
- Date Arrested: April 16, 2026
- Charges: 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material with intent to disseminate, 1 count of electronic solicitation of a child.
- Jamie Lynn Schwab, 55, former special education teacher’s aide.
- Turned herself in: June 3,2025
- Pleaded guilty: Third-degree assault, pleaded down from a child abuse charge as part of her agreement.
