A 64-year-old Verona man is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bail after police say he brandished a knife during an argument with a woman, hit her in the head, and ripped a $2,000 gold necklace from her neck. Jesse Barrett was taken into custody Wednesday and is now facing multiple assault-related offenses along with two felony charges tied to robbery and theft.
According to TribLIVE, Verona police were dispatched to a residence on West Railroad Avenue shortly after 7:30 p.m. after Barrett allegedly argued with the woman at her home. Police say Barrett hit the woman in the head and allegedly ripped the gold necklace, which police say was worth $2,000, from around her neck. The woman was left with cuts on her arm and a raised bump on her forehead, and she sustained what were described as minor injuries.
Barrett was identified as the man who attacked the woman, and investigators say he brandished a knife during the confrontation. He is facing multiple assault-related offenses in addition to the two felony robbery and theft charges, TribLIVE reported.
Out-of-State Warrants Complicate the Case
Barrett also has outstanding arrest warrants in Virginia for assault and violations of a protection from abuse order, according to the same TribLIVE report.
