A heat advisory is in effect Thursday and Friday across the New York City metro area, much of Long Island and portions of the Hudson Valley, according to the National Weather Service. Dangerously high heat index values and the potential for severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the state.
Heat index values are expected to reach 100 to 104 degrees across the New York City metro area, with values of 95 to 99 degrees across most other areas under the advisory.
