Severe weather continues to move through the Ozarks. This evening, I’m tracking thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts between 60 and 70 mph and hail up to the size of tennis balls for areas along and south of Highway 60.
These strong winds have caused spotty power outages across the Ozarks. As of the time this article was written, nearly 10,000 Missourians were without power, with Douglas, Webster and Greene counties among the hardest hit.
Thankfully, most of the severe weather is expected to move out of the Ozarks after sunset, but another chance for rain returns on Friday.
A storm system is expected to move out of Kansas on Friday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms. The best chance for rain will be during the morning, but I can’t rule out an afternoon shower or thunderstorm.
After Friday, the soggy weather will move out, making way for sunshine and warmer temperatures this weekend. Highs on Saturday will climb into the low 90s, while Sunday will be even warmer with highs in the mid-90s. Heat index values are expected to climb into the triple digits.
Looking ahead to next week, a summer ridge will settle over the region, locking the heat in place. Temperatures will remain in the 90s under mostly sunny skies. Rain chances are expected to increase again toward the end of the week…
