Shakespeare gets full magic treatment in Lyons with bubbles, lasers and a cape that ‘takes 10 fairies to carry’

Four years ago, Lyons Community Theater made its debut at the Lyons Regional Library with a small cast, two old-time radio scripts and several friends and neighbors whom organizers had persuaded into theatrical service.

This month, the same volunteer operation is moving into Sandstone Park with more than 40 performers, the majority of whom signed up without a single organizer having to call in a personal favor.

The company will present William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15, marking what organizers say is Lyons’ first Shakespeare in the Park production and the clearest indication yet that the young theater has outgrown its modest beginnings…
