Recent rains improve drought conditions, but Carolinas remain far behind

This week’s Drought Monitor update has even more improvement across North Carolina and parts of South Carolina.

Even with this improvement, extreme (Level 4 out of 5) drought persists across the Grand Strand and severe (Level 3 out of 5) drought persists for the Pee Dee.

Even some EXCEPTIONAL (Level 5 out of 5) drought has popped up in parts of the northern Grand Strand.

Comparing this week’s Drought Monitor update to a month ago shows a general trend of improvement across most of the Carolinas, with the exception of eastern South Carolina extending from the Lowcountry through the Grand Strand and Pee Dee…
