UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. – Outraged neighbors in University City packed a public meeting Thursday night to rail against a controversial project meant to improve the city’s publicly-funded golf course. Specifically, the project was meant to upgrade the driving range at Ruth Park.
FOX 2 has learned that the city used recycled soil from a nearby Target development as part of a remediation effort for the driving range. But city officials explained Thursday that after the dirt was already purchased and hauled onto the site, they discovered that it was mixed with clay, rock and construction debris, making it unsuitable for the golf course.
City Manager Brooke Sharp explained that the improvements to the driving range are now projected to cost the city roughly $2.6 million, which a city spokesperson tells FOX 2 includes roughly $400,000 that the city has already spent…
