Plan to Demolish Centennial Mills Building Moving Forward

PORTLAND, Ore.–Though the fire’s out at the historic Centennial Mills Building, the danger’s far from over. The city of Portland’s taking the next steps toward demolishing the 116 year old building.

Portland Fire and Rescue chief Lauren Johnson’s team’s investigating the fire that left the 8 story building barely standing and in danger of collapse near Union Station’s train tracks, while also rushing out to help on wildfires statewide, telling city councilors: “Oregon is experiencing record-setting fire activity, pushing every department to stretch their limits.   We continue to prioritize protecting Portland first.”

Once their investigation’s done, the building’s owner and the city have to plan to demolish it within the next few weeks…
