Smithfield nursing home evacuated after fallen tree prompts power outage

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WJAR) — Smithfield fire officials said a nursing home was evacuated on Thursday evening after a fallen tree caused a power outage.

According to officials, a tree fell on multiple utility poles on Farnum Pike at around 8:35 p.m., knocking out power in several areas.

Lake Forest Health and Rehabilitation Center’s power and air conditioning were affected, and residents were evacuated.
