United for Youth Block Party draws hundreds in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Hundreds of people filled Pack Square Park on Friday night as Buncombe County youth, families, neighbors and community partners gathered for the fourth annual United for Youth Block Party.

The celebration brought together 70 organizations hosting tables. Organizers said the event comes at a crucial time following multiple high-profile shootings in the Asheville community.

“With the events that have happened recently in our community, it’s incredibly important for our whole community to see that we’re all out here trying to figure out how to be present, and how to show up for kids. Again, from the cradle to when they’re looking at what kind of careers they’ve got,” said Elisabeth Bocklet, senior director of marketing and communications at United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County…
