(Altoona) — Hancock County officials are discussing a possible ordinance to regulate crypto mining, solar farms, battery storage facilities and data centers.
Hancock County Supervisor Bud Jermeland said he visited the Des Moines suburb of Altoona to learn about the impact a data center is having there.
“Actually, I went in through the security gate. There were people behind me, so the security guard had to let me in. There is no noise out of that facility. I said: ‘Is this normal?’ He said: “This is the way it is. There is no noise,’” Jermeland said. “These would basically be the same buildings that would be in Hancock County, that way I understand.”…
