KNOXVILLE – Approximately 8,500 people attended the Knoxville Area Urban League’s 24th annual Shoes for School, which provides new shoes and school supplies for children and connects families with community resources. During the event, the organization distributed 1,800 pairs of shoes, more than 2,500 backpacks and school supplies to more than 3,300 children.
The annual back-to-school event, held at Covenant Health Park, helps prepare children for the new school year as Knox County Schools students return to the classroom on Aug. 10. Shoes for School was made possible through the support of co-presenting sponsors SouthEast Bank and Altar’d State, along with media sponsor WBIR Channel 10.
