Myrtle Beach drowning victim named. Georgia man went into ocean to rescue young girl

A Georgia man has been identified as the person who drowned in the ocean Saturday evening after rescuing a young girl.

Derrick Moore, 47, of Loganville, assisted a struggling child in the ocean near 4th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamra Willard. Witnesses reported that the child was caught in a strong rip current.
