Two Wilmington-area teachers among finalists for statewide award

Two local educators are in the running for a statewide award.

According to a news release from the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT), Kelly Richardson, a teacher with Brunswick County Schools, and Luke Smith, a teacher with Pender County Schools, have been named among the 24 finalists for the 2027 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year Award.

According to the release, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching partnered with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education to develop this award to “honor outstanding CTE educators, encourage teacher leadership, and emphasize the importance of CTE instruction in North Carolina Public Schools.”…
