One week has passed since another beloved Texas barbecue joint announced it will be closing for good in the next few weeks. Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue, the creation of late pitmaster John Brotherton, is shutting down after nine years in Pflugerville, but fans have been quick to rally in support of the smokehouse’s final days.
Brotherton’s made its closing announcement on Sunday, August 2. The smokehouse is closed on Mondays, but by Tuesday, August 4, Brotherton’s was met with a line of customers that sold out within the first two hours after opening at 11 a.m., per its Facebook page. That trend continued the entire week with daily posts showing the company’s “sold out” sign and Brotherton’s revealing that it was selling out by 1 p.m. each day, leading to the smokehouse sharing a video of a line stretching out the door on Saturday, August 8, showing how much people have come out to support the business.
“Another day down folks! As soon as we opened the doors it was busy!,” Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue wrote on Facebook. “We sound like a broken record, but thank y’all so much! You guys are continuing to show up and sell us out so quickly! We haven’t had this many ‘sell out’ days in a row since John was still with us. We know he’s smiling from up above.
