COLUMBIA, S.C. (WTOC) – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has promoted Christopher M. Wooten to commander of Highway Patrol Troop 6, which covers the Lowcountry region.
Wooten, a Goose Creek native, will oversee operations in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Jasper counties.
He succeeds Capt. Dennis Boniecki, who is retiring Aug. 15 after nearly 29 years with the S.C. Highway Patrol, including four years as the Troop 6 commander.
Wooten has more than 27 years of law enforcement experience. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1999 as a trooper and has spent his entire career within Troop 6, serving as lieutenant since 2023.
