New Portage County homeless shelter set to open

Tommy’s Place, a new Ravenna shelter that is geared to people whose backgrounds might keep them out of traditional homeless facilities, will have its grand opening Aug. 13.

Townhall II Integrated Health Network and Neighborhood Development Services plans the event at 11 a.m. at the shelter at 3761 Lovers Lane.

Tommy’s Place is a 10-bed residential facility for Portage County residents experiencing homelessness, particularly those facing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or who have had involvement with the justice system. Named in honor of a man whose experience with homelessness and mental health challenges inspired others, the shelter addresses a longstanding gap in temporary housing for individuals whose needs often limit access to traditional residential programs…
