Crashes cause backups on I-69 amid heavy rain

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Drivers should be extra careful traveling in the bouts of heavy rain Tuesday, especially on the highway. Multiple crashes were reported along Interstate 69 in the afternoon.

The Indiana Department of Transportation’s TrafficWise cameras showed emergency crews at the scene of a collision on I-69 northbound near the 305 mile-marker. Just before 2:30 p.m., the right lane was closed. That’s near the Illinois Road exit.

Dispatch confirmed one person was seriously hurt in that crash.

A truck was flipped on its side, and an SUV was also damaged.

The Fort Wayne Police Department sent out an alert around the same time warning drivers to avoid the northbound side of the interstate between the 302 and 305 mile-markers…
