City life can take an immense toll on the body, mind, and soul. Between traffic-filled commutes and mounting responsibilities, sometimes a mental reset is all it takes to come back refreshed. That’s the experience Daybreak Bathhouse hopes to bring to Jersey City when it opens in 2027. Bathhouses in Jersey City
Bathhouses have deep roots in cultures all across the globe, from public baths in Rome to hammams in Turkey and Russian banyas. Baths have been more than just a way to cleanse oneself; they can also be used to release toxins built up through the week and rejuvenate the soul. Many bathhouses were a place for communal gathering where men and women would gather to bathe and socialize.
Daybreak is seeking to modernize the traditional bathhouse to a new wellness-seeking generation. Founder Katie Como has worked as an architect for around 15 years and lives on Jersey City’s West Side. She was inspired to create a community space that is more than just a sauna, but a place for locals to gather and connect.
“The whole idea of Daybreak is a neighborhood bathhouse that’s inspired by historic bathing traditions. So I’m not envisioning it as a luxury and escape, but just part of the neighborhood in everyday life,” Katie told The Hoboken Girl.
