Violent crime trends in Minneapolis had mixed results, with homicides and robberies declining while reported aggravated assaults and rapes increased, according to a new report.
On Aug. 1, the Major Cities Chiefs Association released a violent crime survey comparing data from Jan. 1 to June 30 of 2026 versus last year. Among the major cities, the Minneapolis Police Department listed its results.
Minneapolis Results
- Homicide
- Minneapolis police reported 25 homicides, down slightly from 26 reports in 2025.
- Rape
- Rape reports increased, with 252 cases compared to 214 last year.
- Robbery
- For robberies, there were 404 reports, which is down from 502 in 2025.
- Aggravated Assault
- In 2026, there were 1,518 aggravated assault cases, which is up from 1,346 last year.
Across 66 major cities, the report reveals violent crimes are down, with homicides down 17.2%, rape down 6.2%, robbery down 16.6%, and aggravated assaults down 5.7%.
