Big Grass Fire grows beyond 555,000 acres prompting evacuations, more homes threatened

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Big Grass Fire burning along the Idaho/Oregon border has now burned over 555,000 acres and is 35-percent contained. The fire started from a lightning strike on July 23.

The incident management team reports that 159 homes have been evacuated, and another 315 residential structures are currently threatened. Some 420 other structures are also in harm’s way.

Level 3 GO evacuation orders are in place for: Big Springs Road and Battle Creek Road to the north, east to Wickahoney, south to the Nevada border, east to Riddle Ranch to Hwy 51, including Riddle Ranches; Antelope Ridge Road south to Big Springs Ranch Road, south to the Owyhee River Canyon including Dickshooter, west to the Oregon Stateline including the 45 Ranch; Triangle Reservoir, Pleasant Valley, South Mountain, Pleasant Valley Road to the City of Triangle, City of Triangle to the Triangle Reservoir, Flint Creek Road, Juniper Mountain Road, and the west portion of Mud Flat Road.
