CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Researchers at UVA Health have identified a drug that may reverse brain changes caused by the stress of surgery, anesthesia and intensive care, according to new findings from the university.
Postoperative delirium can affect people of any age but is particularly common in older and frail patients. The American Delirium Society estimates the condition affects 7 million hospitalized Americans each year and is responsible for up to $152 billion in healthcare costs.
