PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A lawsuit filed by a group of Prince George’s County business owners challenges a newly adopted county charge intended to help fund an ambitious child care initiative, arguing the county exceeded its legal authority by creating what they contend is an unauthorized tax.
The lawsuit, filed by roughly 50 business owners, including operators of liquor stores, self-storage facilities and a gun shop and shooting range, seeks to block a county measure imposing a $5,000 annual charge on those businesses.
