LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A former Fayette County Public Schools employee accused the district and Superintendent Demetrus Liggins after she said she lost her job because of her race.
Cassandra Tocash worked as an employee wellness specialist for FCPS from 2023 until the summer of 2026. When the district cut staff, Tocash said she and another white employee in her department lost their jobs.

Tocash said a Black employee, who was hired after them, kept their job. Tocash claimed the district ignored her experience, qualifications, and job performance.
Tocash’s attorney, Brandon Voelker, said the rules for staff cuts should have been clear. Kentucky law requires districts to consider seniority and qualifications when cutting classified employees. The lawsuit claims Tocash was told the decision had nothing to do with her work…
