(Council Bluffs) — An Omaha man has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa David C. Waterman says 54-year-old Courtney Derrell Bennett was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for possession of a firearm as a felon. Following his prison term, Bennett will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
According to public court documents, Bennett was arrested in Council Bluffs by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and had an outstanding arrest warrant from Douglas County, Nebraska for terroristic threats. Authorities say at the time of his arrest, Bennett possessed a loaded revolver that had been reported stolen from an Omaha business eight days before Bennet’s arrest…
