Wichita restaurant closed for 18 years is coming back to life, buffet style

Even though the last Wichita Willie C’s Cafe closed 18 years ago, the once-popular restaurant never really died: Former owner Bill Rowe brings it back every year in the form of a one-night popup that features a buffet some of restaurant’s most loved dishes, from Mama’s Meatloaf to the Mavis chicken sandwich.

This year’s Willie C’s Revival is about a week away. It will happen Aug. 21-23, but it will be at a different location than in years past.

Rowe, who also owns Blue Moon Caterers, moved his headquarters in early 2025 from his longtime venue at 8406 W. Central — where he’d always stage his revival buffets — to 14,000 square feet of space at Kellogg and Seneca. But while it was vacant, he was able to use his old venue for his revival popups…
