Aiken doubles hospitality tax to 2%, expects additional $2.4 million annually

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) — Eating out in the City of Aiken will soon cost a little more.

The city is increasing its hospitality tax from 1% to 2%, with the new rate taking effect Oct. 1.

City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh says Aiken has had a 1% hospitality tax in place since 2015. He says the city considered several ways to raise additional revenue as costs increased and as the city looked to fund improvements requested by the community…
