‘Really happy kid’: Family remembers 19-year-old killed in Portage shooting

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A family is calling for justice after their 19-year-old son was shot and killed near a party in Portage earlier in August.

Triston Coulter is described by his parents, Makida and Gene Coulter, Jr., as being kind-hearted, responsible and respectful. They said they miss “every moment of every day,” and don’t want him to be remembered for how he died, but rather for how he lived.

“He was this really happy kid all the time. And he loved to dance and make videos of himself. And I loved watching him make these videos and dance,” Makida Coulter said when describing her son.

“I would take him and we would go to the courts, local courts, let him play and, you know, he really loved basketball,” Gene Coulter said…
