A 16-year-old driver from Wisconsin Rapids died at the scene after his car slammed into a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer late Wednesday night at a rural intersection in the Town of Saratoga. The teen, identified as Jacob Stoflet, was the sole occupant of the eastbound car, while three teenagers riding in the southbound pickup were rushed to a regional hospital with injuries.
According to the WAOW report, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department said Stoflet’s vehicle was traveling eastbound on Townline Road at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign before striking the pickup, which was heading southbound on 80th Street South. The impact happened at the intersection of 80th Street South and Townline Road, a rural crossing south of Wisconsin Rapids in the Town of Saratoga, and Stoflet was pronounced dead following the crash.
WSAU reported that Stoflet was 16 years old and that the crash occurred late Wednesday night, with the force of the collision pushing both the car and the pickup truck off the roadway and into the ditch on the southeast side of the intersection, according to WSAU. Both vehicles came to rest on the southeast side of the intersection after leaving the roadway, per the sheriff’s department’s account relayed by the outlet.
Three Teens From the Pickup Hospitalized
The pickup truck was carrying three teenagers besides its driver, and all three were taken to Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. A report from MemorialGuard identified the pickup’s driver as a 17-year-old from Pittsville, accompanied by an 18-year-old female passenger from Marshfield and a 15-year-old female passenger from Pittsville.
