Cuban man with criminal record arrested; allegedly used fake ID at El Paso border bridge

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A Cuban man with a criminal record was arrested this week trying to cross from Ciudad Juarez and into El Paso using a fake birth certificate and ID.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Texas, Erick Maniel Martinez-Mendez tried to cross from Mexico and into the U.S. through the Paso Del Norte border bridge in Downtown El Paso, showing authorities a Texas birth certificate and ID with the name and date of birth that weren’t his.

According to the criminal complaint affidavit, Martinez-Mendez reportedly told Customs and Border Protection officers that he lived in El Paso and was in Mexico visiting his mother in the hospital…
