Frank Cownie says his family has been waiting for something special before deciding to develop farmland they own along Interstate 80/35 near the 100th Street interchange in Urbandale.
Cownie said they found that in a proposal by Texas-based Buc-ee’s to build a 74,000-square-foot store near the interchange in Urbandale.
The Urbandale Planning and Zoning Commission approved a change in the city’s land use plan to accommodate the proposal. It still must be approved by the Urbandale City Council and the project will need to clear other procedural hurdles before it becomes a reality.
Buc-ee’s was founded in 1982. It has grown to at least 56 stores in 13 states. Its logo is a beaver with a red cap against a circular yellow background. Among the company’s claims to fame is its claim of having the cleanest restrooms in the country…
