A man allegedly opened fire on random cars in northeast Houston Friday morning, shooting three people—including a mother and her young daughter— before police shot him, authorities said.
The gunfire erupted around 11 a.m. near North Wayside Drive and Ley Road, where Houston police said they received multiple calls reporting a man shooting at passing vehicles with an automatic weapon. Officers arrived within minutes and found the man holding a rifle, according to HPD.

Police said officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he continued firing. Three HPD officers and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper then opened fire, striking the suspect multiple times. The suspect was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known…
