Heartland Flyer has new funding for 2027, Texas independent council says
OKLAHOMA – The beloved Heartland Flyer passenger train may have new funding to keep running in 2027.
The Oklahoma City-Fort Worth Amtrak line was set to end operations at the end of 2026 after both Oklahoma and Texas legislatures failed to allocate funding for it. The route is currently being funded by regional funding from Texas’ Regional Transportation Council (RTC), an independent transportation policy body overseeing metropolitan transportation planning processes in North Central Texas.
Michael Morris, the director of transportation for the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), said the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) acquired additional funding for the route during an RTC meeting on Wednesday. He did not share any further details about the source…
