Friday evening update: It’s another hot and humid evening, with a few pop-up showers and storms possible before activity gradually fades after sunset. High pressure has been sitting over the region, acting like a lid on the atmosphere and allowing afternoon temperatures to climb into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees.
When you factor in the humidity, it has felt even hotter. Heat index values have climbed to 110 degrees in many spots. Unfortunately, tonight won’t offer much relief, with overnight lows only falling into the mid to upper 70s.
The ridge of high pressure will weaken just a bit Saturday. That should open the door for a better chance of showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. It will still be very hot, with highs in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees and heat index values potentially reaching around 110 before storms develop…
