Funeral for man shot, killed by Madison police

MADISON (WLUK) — Family, friends and community members gathered for the funeral of Corey Ruiz Friday.

The 38-year-old was shot and killed by Madison police on July 22nd. Madison police responded to reports of a man checking parked cars and an attempted burglary.

Four officers are said to have made contact with Ruiz and there was a physical altercation. Officers say Ruiz pulled a knife and injured one of the officers. Other officers attempted to use a taser on Ruiz but were unsuccessful. It’s at that point one of the officers opened fire, shooting and killing Ruiz.

State investigators released the name of the officer who allegedly shot and killed Ruiz on Monday. The Wisconsin Department of Justice identified him as Kiel Baitinger-Peterson…
